For Sacramento — Sedation Dentistry with Davey Dental Care

At Davey Dental Care, we understand that many people are nervous about receiving treatment from a dentist – the mouth is a very sensitive area of the body, and many patients have had bad experiences with other dentists. Our staff understands the fear and anxiety that many our patients feel at the prospect of undergoing a dental procedure. We pride ourselves on being extremely gentle in our care, and our office provides patients with several sedation options to alleviate anxiety and stress. Located in Carmichael and serving the entire Sacramento area, Davey Dental Care offers sedation dentistry so that all of our patients can get the treatment they need to maintain a beautiful and healthy smile.

Although every dentist can give a single dose of a single medication for relaxation of a patient, only dentists with appropriate advanced training are licensed to provide combinations of medications, sometimes in multiple doses, to actually achieve “sedation” for a dental patient.

As a Fellow of the prestigious Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, Dr. Davey has achieved the highest level of training for oral conscious sedation for both adults and children.

Oral Sedation allows Dr. Davey to comfortably treat multiple dental procedures for patients with the patient having little or no memory of the dental appointment.  In addition, because of the decreased stress involved during procedures, the post-operative discomfort that patients experience is generally much less than of a non-sedated patient.

Appropriately trained dentists can use a variety of protocols customized to a patient’s physiological and pharmacological needs in order to provide the most comfortable and safe dental experience.

By performing Pediatric and Adult Oral Conscious Sedation, most patients have all of their needed dental treatment completed in a single appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

We also offer our Sacramento area patients the option of sedation dentistry.  Dr. Davey has earned a fellowship with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, which enables him to give patients multiple doses of necessary medications to ensure constant patient comfort during dental procedures. Conscious sedation gives the patient a comfortable drifting feeling and little memory of the procedure afterward.  Oral conscious sedation is better for longer, more complicated dental procedures, but can also be utilized for routine procedures such as x-rays and cleanings.  Conscious sedation is ideal for patients with dental anxiety, however is available for all patients.  This technique is safe and effective as patients are constantly monitored with the latest technology during their entire procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

For patients who wish to remain awake and aware during their procedure, but want a soothing, relaxed dental experience, nitrous oxide may be the answer. Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide induces a warm, slightly lightheaded feeling and an overall sensation of relaxation. Patients first breathe normal air, and the nitrous oxide is introduced over a period of a few minutes, leading to a gradual slipping into relaxation. The effects of the gas wear off within a few minutes after the procedure, and patients are generally able to safely drive home after their appointment. Nitrous oxide is the most popular option for conscious sedation in the United States. The dental professionals at Davey Dental Care have years of experience administering nitrous oxide, and our patients report that it eliminates any stress or discomfort from the dental process.
